What Happens During a Rehearsal?

PMYC operates with a highly trained and committed music staff that will provide exposure to a variety of increasingly sophisticated repertoire. Depending on your singer's ensemble, during rehearsal they will learn:

  • Proper vocal and breathing technique

  • Musical standards and skills

  • Performance etiquette

  • Music sight-reading skills

  • Ear training

  • Interval recognition

  • Rhythm recognition

  • And so much more

We want our singers to perform at the highest possible musical level appropriate to their physical and personal development. In rehearsals, we teach and reinforce basic skills while exposing singers to a wide variety of choral literature from different musical periods and styles. In concerts, we aim for a high level of musical quality and a polished performance.

What’s our commitment to families?

We're committed to helping your kids thrive.  We’ll get them ready to perform, and they’ll feel proud of themselves when they get there!  Your singer’s commitment to attending rehearsals is what leads to these benefits.

Placement Assessments -- August 26, 2023, 1-3 pm

This year, (2023-24) we'll be doing Placement Assessments for all of our ensembles except for Melody Makers. Singers do not need to prepare anything special for the assessment. It’s a simple process that is designed to put singers at ease, and determine which ensemble would best fit their skill level.  While your singer meets with our Artistic Director, feel free to stay and chat with other parents, Board Members, and our Exec. Director Karen Kitto.

Placement assessments are easy-going and stress-free as possible. It’s a chance for your singer to meet their conductor (Mrs. Pinto); parents are welcome to be present if your child chooses. The assessment is an opportunity for the conductor to listen to your child sing in a one-on-one setting to help ensure the best ‘fit’ for your child.

Pro Musica has open enrollment and interested singers are welcome to request an assessment at any time. All placement assessments are held at First United Church of Oak Park, 848 Lake Street, Oak Park.

If you are joining us mid-season, please contact us to make an appointment for your singer's placement assessment.

Sat. Aug. 26, voice placement and meet & greet, 1-3 pm

Can't make it on Saturday?  Reach out to Karen to see about scheduling a make-up session.
